The Pick n Pay Taste of Cape Town in association with Orbit Sugarfree Chewing Gum
Date change announcement – 5th – 8th May 2011
Due to circumstances beyond the organisers control, the date of this year’s Taste Festival in Cape Town has been moved from the 7th – 10th April to the 5th – 8th May 2011.
All this means is that impatient foodies will need to wait just a few short weeks longer for the Pick n Pay Taste of Cape Town in association with Orbit Sugarfree Chewing Gum to make its way back to the Mother City.
It will be worth the wait however, as this years festival is jam-packed with more flavour experiences than ever before, promising to take visitors’ taste buds on a trip of discovery like no other.
So diarise the 5th to the 8th May at the centrally located and easily accessible Green Point Cricket Club, as this year’s event is set to rival all others.
Fourteen of Cape Town’s top restaurants will join together to serve their fabulous, trend-setting signature dishes that have made them so popular with foodies, critics and basically anyone who appreciates good food. The impressive list of participating restaurants includes; Bistro 1682, Pierneef a La Motte, Societi Bistro, Signal, Planet Restaurant, Fyndraai, Gold and Nobu – to name just a few – guaranteeing that there will be something sensational on offer to appeal to every palate and taste.
“This year we’re mixing things up a bit,” says festival director, Justine Drake. “Food only makes up part of the taste and flavour experience, which is why this year we’re making sure that the dishes our talented chefs are serving are complimented by offerings from some of the finest wine, beer, whisky and coffee makers we could find to complete the overall flavour experience.”
This is why this year’s festival will boast features such as The Pick n Pay Wine Experience and the Grolsch Beer Academy which will showcase the drinks that complete a meal- it’s not just about quenching those “thirst buds”, but also giving visitors the opportunity to mix and match flavours to get the best of every bite.
Back by popular demand, the Pick n’ Pay Fresh Living Chef’s Theatre will again host Cape Town’s top chefs in fun and informative cooking demonstrations, culinary challenges, entertaining tutorials, and food and drink pairing. Look out for the DStv Cookoff in the Pick n Pay Fresh Living Chef’s Theatre on Saturday 7th May - This is a not to be missed showcase at this year’s festival.
A new feature aimed at showcasing Cape Town’s local food heroes – The Eat In Small Producers Market – will offer up delicious hand-made cheeses, pesto, home-made jams and sweets, as well as exotic ingredients and herbs to inspire home-chefs to create their own culinary masterpieces.
Visitors will also be able to take a walk through the Taste & Buy Experience, where they will discover a mouth-watering array of gourmet food suppliers, browse the stalls and try delicious speciality food and ingredients to take home and enjoy.
For those visitors who crave a more exclusive experience, this year’s festival will feature a Taste Club House, a private lounge that will serve as your base for the show. The ticket price comes with access to a complimentary premium bar facility, R200’s worth of Festival Crowns and a fabulous Taste of Cape Town gift.
For our smaller visitors, the Pick n Pay Taste of Cape Town in association with Orbit Chewing Gum has created a Kidz Zone which will be hosted by Partytots and Active Tots on Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th May. Fun activities for all ages will be the order of the day – jumping castles, an obstacle course, face painting, balloon artists, characters and carousels should keep the kids entertained while Mom and Dad enjoy the delectable delights the festival has to offer.
“We’ve really gone all-out to ensure that this year’s festival is bigger and better than last year. We’ve brought together the best of all worlds, from food, drink, new produce, exotic food and entertainment to our all-new venue at Green Point Cricket Club, and we’re very excited – and equally confident- to say that this year Taste of Cape Town is going to ROCK,” says Drake.
